3 Simple Strategies to Get Better Online Reviews for your Business

This article is going to tell you how to get better online reviews for your businessand why this is so important to increase your sales and cut your advertising costs.

If you’ve been reading my blog – or you’re one of our customers who has access to the private members’ area, you already know why online reviews for your business are so important.

But just in case you’re new, let me explain:

Every time someone posts a positive online review for your business somewhere on the Internet, that review helps you by:

  • Sends more free traffic to your Website or FaceBook Fan Page
  • Improves your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in the search engines, resulting in you ranking higher on the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages)
  • Increases your credibility in the eyes of new customers or clients
  • Makes people feel safe to give you their personal information (builds your list)
  • Decreases the resistance people feel about purchasing your products or services (increases your sales)

So, let’s go over some of the simple strategies you can put into place to start getting better online reviews for your business right away.

Strategy #1: Pay it Forward. Think the about the other businesses that you do business with – the ones who help you deliver on your promises to your own customers. Which means suppliers, vendors, partners, etc.  Post a review about their business first. (Okay, I know this may seem a little odd, but it’s really not. )  If  you’re a restaurant owner for example that serves vegetarian food – your customers would be probably be interested to know more about where you get your food – and why you choose that particular grower.  When writing this kind of review, you want to make sure it ties into facts or information your customers will want to know about. Keep it short, to the point and relevant. So keep that in mind when writing an online review for someone else’s business.

Why do this? Because the other business will likely be included to write an online review for your business too. And even if they don’t, you’ll still get a backlink that goes directly to your Website or Facebook Fan Page. The other reason is that it gives your customers or clients a better look at what goes on behind the curtain of your business – and over time and by doing this consistently, they begin to feel like they know you, like you and trust you more.

Strategy #2: Set up a system for getting online reviews for your business. One thing you need to get used to doing is asking for reviews. You can do this a lot of different ways.  Put review postcards in places customers can see and utilize them. You can ask customers to add an online review for your business in your emails or sms messages. You can ask for an online review for your business on your Website or Facebook Fan page. You will want to provide links to online relevant online review sites on your sites.

Why do this? Because if your customers are happy with your products or services, they’re usually flattered to be asked – and willing to post an online review for your business – especially if it only takes a few seconds of their time.  So you need to make it as simple and easy for them as possible.  Give them a link to the review page. Strategy #3: Pay attention to complaints, and respond as soon as possible to negative reviews. You need to monitor and manage all online reviews for your business. This is actually easier to do than it sounds. You’ll need to have a Google email account – and then just set up a series of Google Alerts (again, we do this for our clients), so you can stay on top of what’s being said about you and your business.

Why do this? Because while negative online reviews for your business can be scary and seem like they’re going to be a bad thing, when managed correctly they can also be a way for you to monitor what kind of customer experience people are having with you and your company. In addition, they can pinpoint where specific bumps and warts are in your business quickly so you can turn them around. And finally, monitoring the online reviews for your business also gives you an incredible opportunity relate on a personal level with your customers.

The landscape of SEO and Social Media and even traffic generation has changed so much even in the last year or so, don’t you think? What worked last year isn’t working today, and yet so many people are still promoting the same tired tactics that it’s no wonder so many business owners put up Facebook pages or start blogs or try twittering – and wonder why it doesn’t work.

For you, my suggestion would be to niche down when marketing the lists you have for sale. Because your different lists are so diverse, I think you’d do better to market each one individually – and look for specific customers who are interested in buying that type of list. Are you on LinkedIn? Do you twitter? And have a Facebook Fan Page? Once you’ve collected the contact information of potential customers, I think you could do a lot with a mobile marketing campaign as well. For your Facebook fan page, you could run a contest, for example. Another potential market for you might be local lists to nonprofit organizations.
